Off Bottom Tool
The RIGGER ENGINEERING off bottom tool is used when it is desired to hang the liner without first setting the weight on the bottom of the hole. The tool is attached to the mechanical releasing tool by screwing it onto the releasing nut in lieu of the loc ring which retains the finger ring. The off bottom tool has a series of drag springs which keep it from rotating while setting the liner hanger. When the liner is at the desired depth, the hanger is set in the same manner as the regular mechanical setting tool. Six rotations to the right will rotate the liner and allow the off bottom tool to screw off of the releasing nut, allowing the finger ring to raise and release the hanger slips. Once the slips engage the casing and hanger takes the weight of the liner, the setting tool can be further rotated until it is free of the liner hanger. At this point, the liner can be cemented or the setting tool removed from the well.
