Hydraulic Releasing Assembly
The RIGGER ENGINEERING releasing assembly for the hydraulic setting tool is very similar to the mechanical releasing assembly. It too consists of a releasing nut and a finger ring. The case hardened releasing nut has a coarse 2-pitch square thread that is designed to fit the liner. In this way the liner diameter is unrestricted. Steel fingers attached to the finger ring lay in grooves in the liner hanger. These fingers in tum butt up against the spring loaded slips, holding them in the down or unset position until the finger ring is activated hydraulically. The finger ring itself is installed onto a hydraulic cylinder which is a part of the releasing assembly. A ball is dropped down the drill pipe to seat in a collar. Pressure causes the cylinder to raise, taking the finger ring with it and allowing the slips to engage the casing. Once the liner is hung the hydraulic setting tool must be disengaged via right hand rotation of the drill pipe.
