A liner adapter is used where it is not necessary to hang the liner but, rather, the liner is set on the bottom of the hole. Like a liner hanger there are adapters with seals and without seals and Rigger offers variations of both.

Plain Adapters

The plain adapter is used where the liner is set on bottom without the need for a seal. The adapter centralizes the liner in the hole and the plain adapter is fluted to allow circulation during the cementing operation. The adapter can also be run in conjunction with a bottom hole packer in casing repair jobs.

Seal Type Adapters

Adapters with seals, like liner hangers, are used for a variety of reasons. These include environmental concerns, isolating a zone after cementing, and isolating a producing zone above a slotted liner.

Drive-On Adapters

A drive-on adapter is used when a liner is installed at the bottom of the well with a stub looking up. The top of the stub liner is a landing nipple that typically has a set of wickers on the end. The adapter has a wickered box that “drives” over the top of the landing nipple, engaging the wickers and allowing the operator to put the liner in tension.
